Defining Rules for Messages and Tags

About the Rules Page

When you create a profile, Flexible FIX compares the TT FIX Adapter specification with the FIX specification you identified for the profile. If the specifications differ, Flexible FIX creates rules to drop all messages and tags that are not supported by both.

The Rules page allows you to customize which messages, tags, and tag values are passed between a FIX client and FIX Adapter. It contains three main sections:

  • Message Rules, where you specify which messages to pass through or drop
  • Tag Rules, where you specify which tags to pass through, drop, remap, or add
  • Test, where you can enter a sample message to validate the message and tag rules you defined

Filtering Visible Rules

The Rules page allows you to filter the messages and tags displayed in the Message Rules and Tag Rules sections, as follows.

Section

Field

Description

Message Rules

Direction

Displays messages that can be sent to or from a TT FIX Adapter.

Message

Displays only messages with names or types (i.e. tag 35 (MsgType) values) that contain the specified character or string. The filter text is not case-sensitive.

Note: When a message is assigned a Drop rule, that message’s tags are not displayed in the Tag Rules grid.

Action

Displays messages with the selected Flexible FIX action.

Tag Rules

Direction

Displays tags that can be sent in messages sent to or from a TT FIX Adapter.

Message

Displays only messages with names or types (i.e. tag 35 (MsgType) values) that contain the specified character or string. The filter text is not case-sensitive.

Note: When a message is assigned a Drop rule, that message’s tags are not displayed in the Tag Rules grid.

Tag

Displays only tags with names or tag numbers that contain the specified character or string.

Action

Displays tags with the selected Flexible FIX action.

When typing in the Message or Tag fields, the display automatically narrows as you type more characters. For example, if you type z in the Tag field, the display shows the tags that contain the letter z and includes only those tags in the list, as shown.
