Upgrade Procedures

This manual covers how to:

  • Ensure FMDS authentication through either TT User Setup or all machines running GuardServer (or the domain).

  • Run the FMDS installation package

When to Upgrade

We recommend you upgrade FMDS while the markets are closed to avoid gaps in the stored data.

Refer to the TT Trading Systems – Hardware and Software Requirements document for the latest FMDS requirements.

Upgrade FMDS Checklist

To upgrade FMDS, the following tasks must be performed in order:

Pre-Upgrade TasksCheck-off
  1. On your FMDS server, verify the amount of hard drive space needed is at least two-times larger than the current production database uncompressed.
  1. Obtain the Windows Administrator login for the server on which you want to upgrade FMDS.
  1. Turn Windows Updates off.
  1. Ensure you have an FMDS license.
  1. Obtain the FMDS installation package.
Upgrade TasksCheck-off
  1. Depending on the authentication method being used, verify the following:
    • All machines running GuardServer (or the domain) have an NT account called, FMDSUSER.
    • TT User Setup has an account called, TT_FMDS.

Note: FMDS is able to authenticate either directly to the gateway or with TT User Setup. Depending on the authentication method used, additional configuration may be needed. Refer to FMDS Authentication for details.

  1. Run the FMDS installation package.
  1. Alter the Config Editor window as it suits your trading needs (Subscribing to Contracts).

FMDS Authentication

FMDS can authenticate using one of the following methods:

  • TT User Setup Authentication

Note: This method is only available in FMDS 7.5.4 or greater.

  • Direct Gateway Authentication

On startup, FMDS will first attempt to connect to a TT User Setup in the environment. If located, FMDS will then search TT User Setup for a user name (default user name is TT_FMDS) and attempt to authenticate using its password (default password is 12345678). If the connection cannot be made with TT User Setup or the default user name or password is not valid in TT User setup, FMDS will then attempt to authenticate directly with the gateways. Direct gateway authentication requires an NT account of FMDSUSER. When you create an FMDSUSER account on machines running GuardServer, you must supply a password for the account. The default password used for this account is 12345678.

If you choose to create a custom user name or password, you must create an fmdsaux.ini file in the ttconfig directory. This file requires only a password for the direct gateway authentication method and a user name and password for the TT User Setup authentication method. Refer to the procedures below on how to create the fmdsaux.ini file.

Note: FMDS logs numerous messages on issues that might occur when it reads the fmdsaux.ini file to obtain a password as well as when trying to connect to obtain a license with that password.

Warning!: If you create a custom password or user name but do not put it in the fmdsaux.ini file, FMDS will not work.

Direct Gateway Authentication - Password Modification

When you create an FMDSUSER account on machines running GuardServer, you must supply a password for the account. The standard password used for this account is 12345678.

If you choose to create a custom password, something other than 12345678, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the FMDS machine and create an fmdsaux.ini file in the following directory: ttconfig
  2. Make the file readable.
  3. Add additional security protection to the file as desired. (Set viewing and modifying rights.)
  4. Enter the same custom password created for the FMDSUSER account into the fmdsaux.ini file and re-save the file.
  5. Start FMDS. (Or restart FMDS if it is running.)

TT User Setup Authentication - User Name and Password Modification

When authenticating through TT User Setup, the default user name is TT_FMDS and the default password is 12345678.

If you choose to create a custom user name or password, something other than TT_FMDS or 12345678, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the FMDS machine and create an fmdsaux.ini file in the following directory: ttconfig
  2. Make the file readable.
  3. Add additional security protection to the file as desired. (Set viewing and modifying rights.)
  4. Enter the same custom user name or password into the fmdsaux.ini file and re-save the file.

Note: The file requires a user name on the first line and a password on the second line.

  5. Start FMDS. (Or restart FMDS if it is running.)

Run the FMDS Installation Package

To run the FMDS installation package:

  1. Double-click the new FMDS installation executable.
