Dr. Bill Hrusa is a professor of mathematical sciences at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) who teaches Fixed Income in the university’s Master of Science in Computational Finance (MSCF) program. This interdisciplinary program, which has been ranked #1 in the U.S. since 2011 by QuantNet, is a unique collaborative effort between the Tepper School of Business, the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the Department of Statistics, and the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy. He also teaches several courses and supervises undergraduate research projects in CMU’s Bachelor of Science in Computational Finance (BSCF) program, which is an interdisciplinary program that is a collaborative effort between the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the Tepper School and the Heinz School College. The IDEM market of Borsa Italiana expands trading hours and continues on its growth path.
IDEM, the Italian Derivatives Market of Borsa Italiana and part of London Stock Exchange Group, was one of the fastest growing equity derivatives markets last year in Europe, trading nearly 49 million lots. This performance was led by FTSE MIB futures and FTSE MIB options, with both experiencing double-digit growth in 2016. The IDEM market has also seen record liquidity thanks to the support of 24 global market-making firms and the significant contribution of the online trading community–heralded by IDEM as a unique situation in Europe. We spoke with Massimo Giorgini, Head of Equity and Derivatives Markets Business Development at Borsa Italiana – London Stock Exchange Group, about recent developments at IDEM.
Lisa Ward has more than six year’s experience working in finance and banking in a range of roles including operations, customer relations, project management, accounts and Treasuries. Her drive and enthusiasm for learning new things led her to discover a passion for markets—specifically for the oil industry. Deanna Lahre started her futures industry career in market surveillance at the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), where her work included investigating the controversial May 1977 soybean deliveries and March 1979 wheat deliveries as well as the Hunt brothers’ attempt to corner the silver market in 1979-80. A former member of both the CBOT and Kansas City Board of Trade, Deanna has held prestigious positions in both commercial and proprietary trading. She managed the wheat pit trade operations for Pillsbury and then co-founded Aardvark Financial, which was the predecessor to TransMarket Group. Deanna launched TransMarket’s grain trading operations, with Ray Cahnman heading the large financial and cash arb partnerships, and Bill Feldman managing business operations.
